Hampstead Bookkeeping Case Study: LA Gaffe Hotel, Restaurant & Wine Bar
Problem
La Gaffe is a lovely and traditional Italian restaurant set in the very trendy Hampstead in North London. The business has been trading since 1962 and was started by Bernardo Stella; the business is now run by Lorenzo Stella.
Back in October 2018, Lorenzo got in touch with Paul of Cain & Co to see if he could provide him with a bookkeeping solution. Lorenzo’s previous bookkeeper had just died after looking after the financial affairs for 30 years.
The restaurant needed the bookkeeping being brought up to date, there was also a VAT return imminent and as the previous bookkeeper had dealt with everything there was a certain amount of fact finding and paper chasing.
Solution
The first stage of the process was to get the bookkeeping up to date and set La Gaffe up with an online accounting software. Once the books were up to date it was then a case to introduce new systems that would ultimately save time. The bookkeeping had previously been done manually and with MTD looming it was time to change.
As with all changes, there were initial teething problems, but La Gaffe now have Xero and Hubdoc at their disposal. All supplier invoices are now either scanned into Hubdoc or emails are forwarded to their unique email address.
It is then just a question of coding the invoices in Hubdoc so that they can be published into Xero; Lorenzo has risen to the challenge and is pleased with how the bookkeeping is now performed.
